The Electric City

I love The Office. I never miss an episode, have the first two seasons on DVD and the calendar is hanging in my kitchen. OK, so that might be a bit too much, but when my parents offered to take me through Scranton, PA on our way to Toronto last March, there was no way I was going to pass up that opportunity. The photo of the Scranton sign isn't the best since it was taken from a moving van but it's the one seen during the credits of the show. I made my Dad drive around town so I could take photos of show references, like the Steamtown Mall which we wandered through looking for Office souvenirs. Side note-there are no souvenirs and don't expect a warm response from the locals when you bring up the show. I went into a shop and asked the staff, who were around my age, if there was any place I could buy something with Scranton written on it. His sarcastic response was "What, you means like The Office?" (said with a sneer). He was no help, but I did manage to pick up a University of Scranton t-shirt in a sports store. Jerk.

That's What She Said

My Mom is a really good sport. A super sport. I found online where the only Dunder Mifflin sign in town was, outside the City Hall and after getting lost a couple of times, I screamed when we found it and cohered her into having our photos taken standing under it while locals starred at the obvious Office fans. I didn't care. It was awesome

I want my babyback, babyback, babyback...

To cap off our fabulous trip through Scranton, we had super at the local Chili's in Wilkes-Burre. Anyone who watches The Office will know that this restaurant is an absolute fav of Michaels of he's constantly referencing it. We shared an Awesome Blossom and stuffed ourselves with salad, chicken fajitas and steak. Despite my Dad singing the Babyback Ribs song, no one decided to have ribs. Thanks for having us Scranton. Too bad you're so uptight about being the "hometown" of The Office.

Go Leafs Go!

Elliott and I went to Woofstock in downtown Toronto yesterday. It's the largest doggie festival in North America and is full of every possible piece of dog paraphernalia you can imagine. Food, trinkets, toys, contests, bling, etc. I bought Elliott a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. Yeah it's silly and maybe a waste of money, but compared to what some of the dogs there were wearing like clown collars and goggles, it was among the tamest clothing purchases. The entire event was a trip. It was a hot sunny day, with thousands of people and pooches on leashes. As interesting as it was, every pet had a kind of dazed look as they occasionally sniffed each other and urinated on each and every pole and table leg in sight. It was way too much for Elliott and me and although I didn't mean to spend so much time there, we ended up spending three hours there. We took the TTC there and back which was also an adventure. By the time we got home we were both ready for a well earned nap.
