The Smallness of the World
I'm in Mississauga staying with family until I move into my new place early next week. My Mom and I had some free time to kill yesterday afternoon so we wandered over to Square One Mall to do some window shopping and pick up a few things for my room. We wandered into a clothing store I'd been in about six months ago and just as I was telling my Mom about the clothes I'd previously tried on there, I heard someone yell my name. I looked up and to the right and there was Tracey, a girl I've known since grade three and who I haven't seen since Safe Grad night, almost 11 years ago. Wow! She's been here for six years and is just one of the growing numbers of Maritimers and people I knew in a former life that now make Tdot their home. We caught up, exchanged numbers and I definitely plan on calling her. That's the amazing thing about being in this city. If we ran into each other at the Halifax Shopping Centre we'd probably smile and acknowledge each other but that would be it. Here, in the big bad scary city, we embrace each other and our mutual Maritime history despite not running with the same crowds in school. I love that. I'm looking forward to future run-ins with long lost playground pals!
